Faith Will Celebrate 100 Years Soon

“Rich History—Bright Future”

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters

compared to what lies within us.

Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882

In order to properly celebrate our founding as a congregation in 1909, Consistory appointed a Centennial Coordinating Committee. The coordinating committee is chaired by a coordinator (Bob Dunham) and include the chairs of three task groups that will operate under the umbrella of the coordinating committee. The pastor will be an ex-officio member of the coordinating committee.

The three task groups are Historical (chaired by Jean Cole), Future (chaired by Sue Cromwell, and Celebration (co-chaired by Sue Doran and Kees Brandse). A special historical sub group (led by Dan Pfaff) is updating the previous history of the congregation (sometimes referred to as the “Purple Book.”

The committee is just beginning its work and have discussed many possibilities. Some being discussed are as follows:

            • a concert by an alumni choir

            • a trip to Biloxi for outreach

            • a guest speaker that might be shared by others

            • a centennial quilt

            • tours of the church during arts festival

            • videos of some of our members reflecting back on the history

            • special involvement of our children

            • focus groups of members and outsiders looking at future programming

It is important to celebrate this very important milestone in the history of Faith United Church of Christ. It is equally important to reflect on where we have been and plan for future initiatives. To do this will take the involvement of each member and friend of the congregation as we search for what lies within us.

Please be in touch with any member of the coordinating committee to make suggestions and give reactions as we try to make this a memorable time in the life of the congregation. Thanks for participating!
