Founded in 1999

Friendship Tutoring begins its 12th year on Sunday, September 12, 2010. The program meets every Sunday during fall semester (Sept 12 through Dec 5 except for Nov 21 and 28) and spring semester (Jan 16, through April 17 (except for March 7 and 14). Anyone interested in driving or helping with the program is welcome.

Friendship Tutoring meets each Sunday afternoon between 3:00-5:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. It does not meet during the summer. Approximately fifty elementary school age children, including siblings of the Park Forest Day Nursery, are enrolled in these sessions. Penn State students tutor the youngsters engaging in language arts, math, and social studies activities. Computers with appropriate software are available and a variety of board games encourage the use of academic skills. Each child participates in reading activities as well as journal writing during the sessions, and a nutritious snack is served at the opening of the afternoon. Drivers provide transportation for some students to and from each session. If interested in participating in the tutoring program as a volunteer or if you would like more information, please e-mail the Director Laura Griffin at lpgriffin5876@gmail.com.

Business and organization partners (supporters) for Friendship Tutoring Program are the First Book Program, Centre County Community Foundation, The Pennsylvania College of Technology, State College Woman's Club, The Schreyer Family Foundation, Harcourt, Inc., State College Rotary Club, Goodville Mutual, State College Kiwanis Club and Wegmans Food Market.
